Our guided excursion & dinner to the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, offers you a unique spiritual experience of the orthodox monastic way of life.
At first you will visit the Monastery of Holy Trinity, where our specialized companion will make your way through history of Orthodoxy and the way of living of the monks, and then you dine at the cellar of the monastery while tasting the famous wines produced by the monks. The menu includes a simplistic, but special combination of dishes in the monastic diet: the wheat, the legumes, the vegetables, the rice, the wine and the olive oil. We start with the “prosphoro”, (means “the offer”) a small bread loaf with a liturgical and symbolic stamp on it. A cold plate with cheese, “dakos” and olives. The main dish consists of “gemista” (stuffed vegetables with rice and herbs), “gigantes” (butter beans with tomato sauce) and traditional green salad. For dessert you will have the chance to taste “Kolliva” (boiled wheat with spices, herbs and sugar) which are used at the memorial ceremonies as an offer for those who passed away and we won’t forget them.
All dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients from the Monastery’s gardens and have special significance directly linked to Orthodox Christianity and the way it has been lived in Crete.
